For most start-up businesses, recycling is an after thought during the business design phase. Consider what the world would be like if innovators started with recycling as a core requirement in business design. What would vending machines look like? Would transportation in the US have evolved as a "Service" before the product (i.e., a car) became the dominant platform?
Telsa is pushing the envelope when it comes to flexible functionality. Software upgrades gives the Tesla new functionality -- without requiring the buyer to purchase a new car. I want my TV to work the same way. Give me a TV with a detachable motherboard that I can replace to upgrade its functionality.
Sounds crazy? 20 years ago no one would have imagined that businesses focused on providing shared car rides and offering home "hoteling" would have billion dollar valuations.
